Overview

During the Civil War in 17th-Century England, a small group of deserters flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field. They are captured by an alchemist, who forces the group to aid him in his search to find a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field. Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field.

Detailed Bias Analysis

Analyzing...
Leans Traditional

Primary

Political: Center
Confidence: High

The film's surreal and allegorical exploration of human nature, war, and madness during the English Civil War does not explicitly promote a specific political ideology. Its focus on psychological descent and universal themes of greed and power renders it largely apolitical in a contemporary context.

Diversity: Low
Confidence: High

The movie features a traditional cast without explicit race or gender swaps for its historical setting. The narrative does not appear to explicitly critique traditional identities or center on strong DEI themes.

Secondary

Christianity: Negative
Confidence: High

Set during the English Civil War, the film depicts nominally Christian characters as morally corrupt, violent, and driven by greed. Their faith offers no moral guidance or redemption, and they readily succumb to occult influences, portraying Christianity as ineffective in preventing human depravity within this context.

LGBTQ: N/A
Confidence: High

A Field in England does not feature any explicitly identifiable LGBTQ+ characters or themes. The film's narrative centers on historical horror and psychological breakdown among men, without engaging with queer identity or relationships in its plot or character development.

Trans: N/A
Confidence: High

The film "A Field in England" does not feature any identifiable transsexual characters or themes. The narrative focuses on a group of deserters during the English Civil War, exploring themes of greed, madness, and alchemy, without any elements related to transgender identity.

Female Combat: N/R

The movie does not contain any action or adventure elements.

Gender Swap: No
Confidence: High

A Field in England is an original film with characters created specifically for this production. There is no prior source material or historical record to establish canonical genders for any character, thus precluding a gender swap.

Race Swap: No
Confidence: High

The film features original characters created for the screenplay, not adaptations of pre-existing characters or historical figures. Therefore, there is no prior established race for any character to be swapped from.
