Dry Wind (2020)

Dry Wind poster

Dry Wind (2020)

Overview

The area around Catalan in Brazil’s state of Goiás is dry, very dry. Sandro’s life here is somewhat monotonous. He works in a fertiliser factory, goes swimming and spends his evenings doing jigsaw puzzles of landscapes. When Maicon, a man straight out of a Tom of Finland illustration, shows up in their small town and flirts with Ricardo, Sandro’s burgeoning feelings of jealousy set a change in motion.

Detailed Bias Analysis

Analyzing...
Progressive

Primary

The film's central thesis explicitly promotes the acceptance and exploration of queer identity and non-normative sexuality, challenging traditional societal norms. This aligns directly with progressive ideology and advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and representation.

The movie 'Dry Wind' features explicit DEI through its central focus on an LGBTQ+ protagonist and narrative. It explores themes of self-discovery and forbidden passions for a gay man, directly challenging traditional norms and societal expectations.

Secondary

Dry Wind offers an explicit and empathetic portrayal of gay male sexuality and desire through its protagonist, Sandro. The film centers on his complex internal world and agency as he navigates his identity and relationships in a small town. It provides a raw, non-judgmental exploration, affirming the worth of queer lives and experiences.

The film implicitly portrays the societal norms, often rooted in conservative Christian morality prevalent in rural Brazil, as repressive and stifling towards the protagonist's queer identity and desires. The narrative positions the audience to sympathize with the protagonist's struggle against this unaccepting environment, without offering a counterbalancing positive portrayal of the faith itself.

There is insufficient information to evaluate the film's portrayal of transsexual characters and themes. While a known trans actress is part of the cast, specific plot details or character arcs are unavailable to determine if trans characters are present or how they are depicted, leading to an N/K assessment.

The movie does not contain any action or adventure elements.

There is no information provided to suggest that "Dry Wind" is an adaptation of existing material or features legacy characters with pre-established genders. Therefore, its characters are considered original to the film, and no gender swaps are identified.

The film 'Dry Wind' appears to be an original production without prior source material or historical figures. Therefore, its characters do not have a pre-established race that could be subject to a race swap.
