Overview

The aristocratic families of Rossitz and Warwand, who are relatives, have started to treat each other with mistrust and hatred, since a testamentary contract has stated, that the complete goods will be inherited to the respective surviving line. At the same time the young generation is in love, how can the tender ties between Agnes of Warwand and Ottokar of Rossitz be protected? Killed by their own fathers, they lie in their blood. A radical drama about the term "family". (www.filmgalerie451.de)

Center

Primary

Political: Center
Confidence: Medium

The film explores universal themes of human tragedy, the destructive nature of suspicion and revenge, and the breakdown of familial bonds, without explicitly endorsing or critiquing a specific political ideology or offering a politically-charged solution.

Diversity: Low
Confidence: High

This 1984 German television adaptation of a classic play features traditional casting, consistent with the era and source material, without explicit DEI-driven character changes. The narrative, rooted in a 19th-century tragedy, does not incorporate modern DEI critiques or negatively portray traditional identities, focusing instead on themes of familial conflict and fate.

Secondary

Gender Swap: Yes
Confidence: Medium

The film adapts Heinrich von Kleist's play, where the canonically male characters Ottokar and Sylvius are portrayed by female actresses, constituting a clear gender swap.

Christianity: Negative
Confidence: High

The film portrays a world where nominal Christian faith fails to prevent characters from descending into paranoia, hypocrisy, and extreme violence. Religious references often underscore the moral decay and the ineffectiveness of faith in guiding human actions, rather than affirming its virtues.

LGBTQ: N/A
Confidence: High

The film "Die Familie oder Schroffenstein" does not feature any identifiable LGBTQ+ characters or themes. Therefore, an evaluation of its portrayal of LGBTQ+ elements is not applicable.

Trans: N/A
Confidence: High

The film, an adaptation of Kleist's play, does not feature any identifiable transsexual characters or themes. Its narrative centers on a dark family feud and its tragic consequences, without incorporating elements related to transsexual identity.

Female Combat: N/R

The movie does not contain any action or adventure elements.

Race Swap: No
Confidence: High

The film is an adaptation of a German play set in medieval Germany. The original characters are implicitly white, and the 1984 film features a cast of white actors portraying these roles, with no instances of a character's established race being changed.
