Rock of Ages poster

Overview

We here introduce for the first time, a sublime religious subject, illustrating one of the best known hymns extant. A beautiful girl is seen clinging to a rock, over which huge billows are dashing, sending great volumes of spray and surf high into the air. As the maiden appears to be exhausted and about to give up in utter despair, a cross appears on the rock, showing at first thinly, but gradually growing clear until it stands out in bold relief. The maiden then takes new courage and throwing her arms about the cross, clings to it in safety, while the waves continue to surge against her.

Primary

The film's central conflict pits artistic freedom and counter-culture against conservative moralism and corporate development, clearly championing the former through its narrative and character portrayals.

Based on the directorial period of Edwin S. Porter in the early 20th century, the film would feature predominantly traditional casting without intentional diversity initiatives. The narrative would also reflect the societal norms of the era, presenting traditional identities neutrally or positively without explicit DEI critiques.

Secondary

The film directly illustrates the themes of the Christian hymn 'Rock of Ages,' portraying faith as a source of comfort and salvation throughout a woman's life. Its allegorical narrative affirms the virtues and dignity of Christian belief.

The film 'Rock of Ages', attributed to director Edwin S. Porter, does not feature any identifiable LGBTQ+ characters or themes. This assessment aligns with the historical context of filmmaking during Porter's active period, where such explicit portrayals were not common.

The film "Rock of Ages" (1907) is a very early silent short. Its brief plot involves a symbolic transformation and does not contain any identifiable transsexual characters or themes. Therefore, the film has no depiction relevant to the rubric.

The movie does not contain any action or adventure elements.

The 1902 film "Rock of Ages" is a short, early silent film without established characters from prior canon or historical figures whose genders could be swapped. The film's characters are original or generic to its own narrative.

The film "Rock of Ages" (1902) by Edwin S. Porter is not a documented film in historical records. Without any existing source material or character information, it is not possible to identify any instances of a race swap.
