A direct-to-video spinoff of Batman: The Animated Series, SubZero follows Mr. Freeze as he kidnaps Barbara Gordon to use as an unwilling organ donor for his cryogenically frozen wife. Batman and Robin race to stop him before surgery begins. The Mixed label fits because the film pulls in two directions at once. Mr. Freeze's all-consuming devotion to his wife is the emotional engine of the story, a portrait of marital commitment so extreme it becomes the villain's justification. Balancing that, Batgirl holds her own in physical confrontations without powers or backup. Neither signal cancels the other, leaving the film sitting squarely between traditional family ideals and a capable, independent female hero.
