Dragon Ball Super: Broly (2018)

Dragon Ball Super: Broly poster

Dragon Ball Super: Broly (2018)

Overview

Earth is peaceful following the Tournament of Power. Realizing that the universes still hold many more strong people yet to see, Goku spends all his days training to reach even greater heights. Then one day, Goku and Vegeta are faced by a Saiyan called 'Broly' who they've never seen before. The Saiyans were supposed to have been almost completely wiped out in the destruction of Planet Vegeta, so what's this one doing on Earth? This encounter between the three Saiyans who have followed completely different destinies turns into a stupendous battle, with even Frieza (back from Hell) getting caught up in the mix.

Detailed Bias Analysis

Center

Primary

The film is rated 0 (Neutral/Centrist) because its core conflict and resolution are centered on apolitical themes of individual power, martial arts, and overcoming a destructive force, without advocating for specific political ideologies or societal structures.

The movie adheres closely to its established anime universe, featuring a cast diverse in its fictional alien races and character designs, without engaging in explicit DEI-driven recasting of roles. Its narrative is primarily focused on action and character development within its lore, and does not include critical portrayals of traditional identities or central DEI themes.

Secondary

Dragon Ball Super: Broly is an action-focused anime film centered on Saiyan battles and origins. The narrative does not feature any identifiable LGBTQ+ characters, themes, or plotlines, resulting in no depiction of queer identity within the film's scope.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly does not feature any identifiable transsexual characters or themes. The narrative focuses on Saiyan origins, power struggles, and combat, with no elements pertaining to transgender identity or experiences.

The film primarily focuses on combat between male Saiyan characters and Frieza. Female characters such as Bulma, Cheelai, and Berryblue are present, but none engage in or win direct physical combat against male opponents using martial arts or melee skills.

All established characters in "Dragon Ball Super: Broly" retain their canonical genders from previous Dragon Ball installments. New characters introduced in the film do not constitute gender swaps.

The film is an animated installment of the long-running Japanese Dragon Ball franchise. All established characters are depicted consistent with their original designs and racial coding from the manga and previous anime, with no changes to their race.
