Detailed Bias Analysis

Analyzing...
Progressive

Primary

The film's central thesis explicitly promotes progressive ideology by critiquing the destructive, expansionist system of 'Municipal Darwinism' and championing environmental preservation and peaceful coexistence.

The movie features a visibly diverse cast in key roles, contributing to a sense of broad representation. Its narrative subtly critiques themes of unchecked expansionism and resource consumption, which can be seen as an indirect commentary on certain power dynamics.

Secondary

The film features Anna Fang, a skilled fighter, who defeats a male opponent in a sword fight. Hester Shaw also achieves victory in a close-quarters knife fight against a male antagonist.

The character Stigwood, a male airship crew member in Philip Reeve's original novel, is portrayed as female in the 2018 film adaptation, constituting a gender swap.

Mortal Engines does not feature any identifiable LGBTQ+ characters or themes. The narrative focuses on heterosexual relationships and a dystopian future without exploring queer identities or experiences.

Mortal Engines does not feature any discernible transsexual characters or themes. The story centers on a futuristic world of mobile cities and the conflict between its inhabitants, without addressing transgender identity in any capacity.

Based on a review of the source material and the film's casting, no major or legacy characters in "Mortal Engines" were canonically established as one race and then portrayed as a different race in the 2018 movie adaptation.
