Bob's Burgers (2011)

Overview

Bob's Burgers follows a third-generation restaurateur, Bob, as he runs Bob's Burgers with the help of his wife and their three kids. Bob and his quirky family have big ideas about burgers, but fall short on service and sophistication. Despite the greasy counters, lousy location and a dearth of customers, Bob and his family are determined to make Bob's Burgers "grand re-re-re-opening" a success.

Detailed Bias Analysis

Analyzing...
Leans Progressive

Primary

The film focuses on universal themes of family unity, small business struggles, and community support in overcoming adversity, rather than explicitly promoting or critiquing specific political ideologies. The core conflict and its resolution are personal and communal, not systemic or political.

The movie presents a visibly diverse supporting cast and subtly incorporates themes of acceptance and individuality, including LGBTQ+ representation, within its narrative. It does not feature explicit racial or gender recasting of traditionally white roles, nor does it explicitly critique traditional identities as central to its story.

Secondary

Bob's Burgers consistently features a diverse array of LGBTQ+ characters, including transgender, lesbian, and gay individuals, who are integrated into the narrative with dignity, humor, and acceptance. The show normalizes queer identities, portraying them as natural aspects of complex characters without resorting to stereotypes or making their sexuality a source of conflict or ridicule. The overall portrayal is affirming and supportive.

Bob's Burgers features Marshmallow, a recurring Black trans woman, who is depicted with dignity and respect. Her trans identity is normalized and not a source of mockery or conflict. The show integrates her seamlessly into the community, presenting a positive and affirming portrayal of a trans character.

The movie does not contain any action or adventure elements.

Bob's Burgers is an original animated series, not an adaptation or reboot of pre-existing material. All characters were created for this show, establishing their genders within its own canon from their first appearance. Therefore, no characters were canonically established as one gender elsewhere and then portrayed as a different gender in this series.

Bob's Burgers is an original animated series, not an adaptation or reboot of pre-existing material. All characters were created for the show, establishing their race within its original context. There are no instances of characters whose race was established in prior canon being portrayed as a different race in this series.
