Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (2000)

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters poster

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (2000)

Overview

Bullies often target someone frail and weak—someone exactly like Yûgi Muto. He treasures his Millennium Puzzle, an ancient Egyptian artifact that was brought into his grandfather's game shop. Believing that solving the puzzle will grant him his wish, he completes the puzzle, unleashing a new personality within him, the soul of the "King of Games." The new personality named Yami Yûgi is the exact opposite of Yûgi. Upon any injustice toward him, Yami Yûgi takes over Yûgi's body and forces the opponent into a "Shadow Game".

Detailed Bias Analysis

Analyzing...
Center

Primary

The series is rated 0 because its central themes of friendship, destiny, and overcoming evil through card duels are universally positive and apolitical, consciously avoiding engagement with specific ideological viewpoints.

The movie, being a Japanese anime, features a cast diverse within its cultural context, but it does not engage in explicit DEI-driven recasting of traditionally white roles. Its narrative primarily focuses on its core themes of dueling and friendship, without explicitly critiquing or negatively portraying traditional identities.

Secondary

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters does not feature any identifiable LGBTQ+ characters or themes. The series focuses on card dueling, ancient mysteries, and friendship, with no explicit exploration of sexual orientation or gender identity within its canon narrative.

The anime series "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters" does not include any identifiable transsexual characters or themes. Its narrative focuses on card dueling, ancient Egyptian mythology, and the bonds of friendship, without engaging with transsexual identity in any capacity.

The series primarily focuses on card dueling, with physical combat being a rare occurrence. Female characters in the show, such as Tea Gardner and Mai Valentine, primarily participate in duels or serve supportive roles and are not depicted engaging in or winning direct physical combat against male opponents.

The anime adaptation of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters faithfully portrays the genders of its established characters as they appeared in the original manga. No major or legacy characters had their gender changed for the screen adaptation.

The anime series "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters" faithfully adapts the characters from the original manga. There are no instances where a character canonically established as one race in the source material is portrayed as a different race in the show.
