Overview

Dave Made a Maze follows an artistically blocked young man who builds a cardboard fort in his living room, gets lost inside a labyrinth of his own making, and watches helplessly as his girlfriend and friends wade in after him. The movie is a low-budget indie fantasy-horror-comedy about creative failure, self-doubt, and the people who stick around anyway. Its Neutral label fits because the film is almost entirely apolitical. The central relationship is a cohabiting couple with no particular ideological framing. The ensemble is visibly diverse but the story never orbits identity politics. Religion is absent. The whole film is basically a surreal metaphor for an artist who keeps not finishing things, which is relatable enough to offend nobody.
